The experiment is about testing (is aimed to test) the following hypothesis: why the
banknote does not burn in ethanol solution. To do this, we are about to conduct
three experiments. Let’s set the banknote with different amounts of ethanol in it
on fire. 1) 10% - alcohol, 90% - water 2) 94% - alcohol, 6% - water 3) 50% -
alcohol, 50% - water.
In the first case, the bill refused
to burn. In the second case, the bill is almost completely burned down. In the
third case, the bill was covered in flames, but it had not been affected at
all. So we can make a conclusion that the water does not allow the banknote to be
burned. As the alcohol burns, the water formes the protective layer on the
paper, which can not be burned.
