The idea of the statue was first suggested in the 1850s when Pricess
Isabel decided to build a large religious monument. But only 50 years later the
idea was supported by Brazilians. The statue of Christ with open arms was chosen.
First people collected money then Heitor da Silva Costa a local engneer designed
the statue after that the statue was created by Paul Landowski a French
sculptor. The statue of Christ the Redeemer was opened in 1931. Today the
statue needs restoring and it will be restored in the near future.
