It looks like robots are (1) taking over some very unusual jobs.
Recently, the news (2) has come out about a robot sheepdog called Rover. I couldn't
(3) make it out at first, because the robot works with a flock of geese, not
sheep. It has been designed by the Robot Sheepdog Project which is being
(4) carried out by three postgraduate students in Britain. The study is to (5) do with
both robotics and animal behavior and has been a great success. The
robots can't move as fast as a dog or a person but this is (6) made up for by the
fact that they (7) get on better with animals than people or dogs.
Apparently, research has shown that machines are less threatening to
animals than people, so these robots can (8) get through to the geese. Rover is
(9) made up of
a robot vehicle, a computer and a camera, it can gather a flock of
geese together and move them to a particular place. One thing I'm not
going to do is (10) to give away this information to my dog. She's a Welsh sheepdog
and I don't think she'd be too happy to hear about Rover!
