1. The first firefighting attempts can be traced as far back as the 2nd century.

2. An Egyptian named Ctesibus was the first to create an equipment that was used against fire. It was a basic hand pump that could squirt a jet of water.

3. From what we know from the text, is that major fires happened in England (London) in 1666, and the United States, which happened mostly in Northeast. The very first recorded structure fire in the United States occured in 1608, in the Colony of Jamestown.

4. In 1648, Governor Peter Stuyvesant in New Amsterdam, (New York City) was the first in the New World to appoint fire inspectors with the authority to impose fines for fire code violations. He did that probably because of the very first recorded structure fire, it terrified many. Maybe even him, so that's why he made that decision, which made the world change.

5. Benjamin Franklin founded the first American volunteer fire company in Philadelphia in 1736. Such companies were soon organized in other colonies. Among those who served as volunteer firefighters were George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, Samuel Adams and Paul Revere. Those were just some facts, but, to answer the question, the things that were so 'distinctive' were that Hamilton and Goerge Washington were a part of the very first fire company, and, that the firefighting in USA jave brought innovations in modern fire fighting throughout the world.
