In the mountains of the great Caucasian Range in a long time there was a robber. Sly, clever and powerful, he terrified all the settlements, and the inhabitants did not know how to save themselves and their goods. But one day a robber met a girl in the shady garden of a village. Her beauty could not be overshadowed even by the radiance of a snowy mountain peak on a sunny day. The robber lost peace, for the girl rejected the love of the villain. The heart of the robber was broken, for soon the girl was engaged to another young man.
And then the robber left people and went to the mountains. He settled in a cave near which was the purest natural spring. A little time passed and the robber began to notice that the water from the source has amazing properties - it gave strength, relieved fatigue, healed any ailments. More than once the robber happened to help the shepherds and travelers who had lost their way in the mountains. He showered them with miraculous water, and their wounds healed, and fatigue disappeared.
The rumor about the healer and his source quickly spread in the neighborhoods, and here pilgrims and sufferers rushed to the hermit. Wanting to atone for the sins of his youth, the robber did not refuse anyone help, sharing miraculous water and healing all the diseases.
Many years have passed. And one day a rumor came to the rabble that down below, in the valley, from a serious illness his beloved dies. For the first time in all this time, he descended from the mountains, carrying her healing water. For several days he gave the woman a wonderful water, and soon the forces began to return to her. Having recovered, she began to thank her savior ... Did she recognize in the old hermit the one who once asked for her hand and whose love she rejected? Nobody knows this. But the source since that time bears the name of Arkhyz, which is translated from Karachai - a beautiful girl "ariuu-kyz" - so called him a robber in honor of his beloved.
