Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to apply for the post of kitchen helper at Lenny’s Restaurant which was advertised in last Saturday’s newspaper.

I have considerable experience of working in catering. Last summer, I worked for six weeks as a waitress in my local café. My responsibilities there included taking orders and serving customers as well as cleaning the kitchen and washing up.

I consider myself to be reliable, hard-working and enthusiastic. If necessary, I can supply references from the café owner and also from a teacher at my school.

I would be very grateful for the opportunity to vist the restaurant and discuss my application with you in person. If my application is successful, I will be available to start work on 25 July, immediately after my exams.
