1. Canterbury is on the shortest route between London and the Channel ports and has been the commercial and cultural heart of Kent, in South East England, for hundreds of years. The county has areas of great natural beauty with classic English villages, castles, and seaside towns such as Whitstable, Herne Bay, Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate.
2. The Channel ports of Dover and Folkestone and the Channel Tunnel are 30 minutes from the University of Kent and there are excellent rail and motorway links to London, 55 miles to the north-west.
3. The City itself is a lively mix of ancient and modern - not just a place tourists visit but somewhere with lots to offer those who live or work there. There are new shopping malls for the High Street chain stores alongside medieval streets 13packed with pubs, restaurants, second-hand bookshops and craft shops. There are also two swimming pools, the famous County Cricket Ground, The Marlowe Theatre, a cinema and night clubs.
4. Canterbury Cathedral, known worldwide as the Mother Church of the Anglican Communion, is at the heart of the city just as it was in Chauser’s time. There are many pilgrims – and probably even more tourists! The magnificent Cathedral is the venue for our annual candle-lit carol service and it also makes a wonderful setting for our Degree Congregations when graduating students are presented with their Degree Certificates.
