Canberra is the capital of Australia. It became the capital in 1927.
It's situated in the southeast of Australia. Canberra is the newest city on the continent. It is a long way from the sea - about 120 kms.  
There are thousands of trees there and a big lake in the centre. 
It's an important centre of learning. There is the National University of Australia. The word "Canberra" is translated to English "meeting place ". 

Sydney is Australia's oldest and biggest city. It appeared in 1788. Sydney is  
a city of old and new tall buildings. More than 35 million people live there. It's the first European city on the continent. 
Sydney is the centre of business life of Australia and there is a big seaport. 
It's famous with its Opera House with an unusual roof. The roof of this building looks like sails in the wind. The longest bridge in Australia is situate near the Opera House . There are a lot of parks and gardens in Sydney.
