Jules Gabriel Verne (8 February 1828 – 24 March 1905) was a French geographist and novelist, famous writer of adventoures literature, one of the founders of the genre of science fiction. According to the UNESCO statistics his books rank second in their popularity among translators among the world.
Verne was a son of an attorney, studied in Paris, but the love to literature has lad him to another way. In 1850 his play The Broken Straws was warmly warmly welcomed at the Théâtre Historique. During the years of 1852-1854 Verne was working as a secretary of the director of Théâtre Lyrique, then worked on the exchange, without stopping writing comedies, librettos, stories.
On 9 March 1886, Verne was shot by his nephew in his left leg. The travelling was now out of question. Shortly before his death, Vern went blind, but still continued to dictate books. The writer passed away on March 24, 1905, from diabetes. After his death, there remained a filing cabinet containing over 20,000 notebooks with information from all areas of human knowledge.
