Lionfish
Lionfish live in the warm waters of coral reefs around the world. They swim very slowly and look beautiful with their colourful stripes, but you must never touch one because the lionfish’s spines are full of poison. A lionfish sting can quickly make you very ill. The most colourful and interesting lionfish come from the Indian Ocean and the western Pacific Ocean.
During the day, lionfish stay near their home rocks, but when the sun goes down, they leave their hiding place to hunt for their favourite meals such as small fish, shrimp and even crabs. A lionfish’s mouth is large enough to eat animals nearly as large as its own body. The lionfish uses its bright colours to tell predators that it is poisonous.
