Athletics is an Olympic sport, including running, walking, jumping and throwing. Combines the following disciplines: cross-country types, athletic walking, technical types (jumping and throwing), all-around, runs (running on the highway) and crosses (running on rough terrain). One of the main and most popular sports.
The governing body, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), was established in 1912 and unites 212 national federations (for 2011). The IAAF defines the term "athletics" as follows: "competitions at the stadium, running on the highway, walking, crossing and running in the mountains (mountain jogging)" [1].
