Advantages and disadvantages of keeping animals in
zoos
It is not a secret that nowadays the majority of wild animals live in
zoos. Most people would agree that zoos are an important place for keeping wild
animals. But many other people believe that animals will be happier in wild life
than in the zoo. Undoubtedly, this suggestion has both advantages and
disadvantages.
There are a lot of positive aspects to keeping animals in zoos. Firstly,
people keep animals there to save them from killing. They live longer and can
feel safe in zoos. Secondly, people take care and feed them while in wild life
they have to find food themselves. In addition to this, living in zoos gives an
opportunity to be protected from other animals. Also people can see wild and
exotic animals, they can see how animals live and behave. What is more, more endangered
species will be preserved in zoos that in their natural habitat.
However, there are some negative aspects. Zoos have a bad influence on
animals’ psychology. It is bad for them because they have not enough space for
living as opposed to natural habitat. They are under stress. What is more, if these
animals are set free, they will not survive because they will not remember how
to find food.
To sum it up, I think it is harmful to keep animals in zoos. Every time
when I see animals in cages I feel pity for them. So, I would like to offer to
create more natural reserves. There animals would be under protection and feel
happier.
