A: Are you planning on going to university after school?
B: Of course, I want to study biochemistry because I'm interested in science. And what are your plans?
A: Well. I don't think I will go to university straight after school, I am not sure what I want to do. I believe it's important to take a gap year to decide what career is right for me and maybe even travel around the world while I can.
B: I think it's best to decide what you want to do as soon as possible, I really like and try to get accepted by a university after we finish school.
A: Maybe you are right about this. My parents insist that I shouldn't take a gap year, but I don't feel ready to go to uni.
B: It's up to you to decide, but maybe you should try some one-year college courses and see whether you like it or not.
A: Really? Do you mean I should still carry on even though it might not be for me?
B: Sure. if you don't like it, at least you will only waste one year of your life instead of four to five and college courses are cheaper, some are even free. besides, you will end up with a certificate and who knows, you might enjoy it.
A: Are you saying you would rather do a course you are not certain about than take a gap year?
B: Exactly. At least I wouldn't get too lazy and eventually decide not to apply for higher education at all.
A: Thank you for your advice I am going to consider this.
B: That is good idea. Try and really think about it.
