Volgodonsk - a town in the Rostov region of Russia. Forms city district city of Volgodonsk.
One of the youngest cities in the south of the country, was founded July 27, 1950 as a village of Tsimlyansk hydroelectric operatives. Large industrial and scientific center of the south-east of Rostov region, geographical and commercial and industrial center of the 12 rural districts (8 of them belong to the system of settlement the Volgodonsk) [2] [approx. 1], the energy center of the south of Russia, one of the core enterprises - Rostov (Volgodonsk) NPP. In the city there is one more very large enterprise - "ATOMMASH" - the largest in the USSR and later in Russia, the industrial association of atomic power engineering.
