Most of the biographers and bibliographers of Pushkin say of him as the great or greatest Russian poet, as the Creator of modern Russian literature, in his works, which approved the norms of modern Russian literary language. His works are recognised benchmark of language, like the works of Dante in Italy or Goethe in Germany.
During the life of the poet became known as a genius, including print. The second half of the 1820-ies he was considered "the first Russian poet" not only among contemporaries, but also by Russian poets of all time, and around his person among the readers has developed a cult following.
