American cuisine is diverse styles of cooking in the United States. Beginning with the traditions of English cuisine of the XVII—XVIII centuries, mixed with some culinary traditions of the American Indian (dishes of corn and potatoes, maple syrup, etc.), it significantly changed during the last three centuries, becoming a synthesis of the culinary traditions all over the world, combining cuisine from different immigrant cultures. American specialties steel German "steak in the Hamburg" and sausages, Italian pizza and pasta, Chinese dishes.
Modern American food has an extremely wide distribution of prepared foods, quick service restaurants (i.e. fast food) and restaurants of various national cuisines that also complicates the characterization of American cuisine.
