Our
neighborhood in Tampa, Florida has a flock of peacocks that are
semi-wild. A few weeks ago as I (1) _________________ (was driving) home I (2)
_____________________ (noticed) one of them staring intently at
something next to the sidewalk. As I (3) _____________________ (got)
closer I saw that the object the bird (4) ____________________ (was looking at)
was a two foot iguana. I (5) _______________ (parked) my car and (6)
__________________ (walked) back over to the spot. The iguana (7)
_______________ (was lying) quietly in the grass. I (8) ________________(took
off) my T-shirt and slowly (9) __________________(approached) it. A couple
(10)_____________ (was sitting) in a car across the street. The man yelled, 'Is
that your iguana?' I yelled back, 'It will, if I (11)________________
(am able to) catch it.'
I picked it up and kept it in the bathtub until my
girlfriend came home. Since neither of us knew anything about iguanas,
we went to a pet store that (12)__________________(specializes) in
reptiles. The owner looked over the iguana and told us several things;
it was in good health, but a little dehydrated and
(13)_______________(had been living) in the wild for the past five months. It was a
'girl' about two years old and had probably (14)______________(been abused) and
(15)___________ (had escaped from) it's previous owner. Though it is warm in
Florida, it (16)_________________ (would not survive) the winter, so it was
lucky that I(17) _______________ (had caught) it. We named her 'Lizzy the
Lizard'. Lizzy (18)________________ (had grown accustomed) to her freedom
over the past few months and (19) ________________ (did not like) the
confines of her new aquarium at first. We bought her a leash and harness
and let her get out by taking walks. She (20)_______________ (is doing well)
now and (21)_______________(seems to be) happy with us.
