After the third assassination in 1901, the protection of presidents was put in the hands of the United States Secret Service and nowadays wherever a president goes he is surrounded by Secret Service guards who all have a tendency to look very similar — the men are often unsmiling, with short haircuts, moustaches, trenchcoats and sunglasses.
There are women too, but many more men. If the president wants to go fishing or horse-riding, the Secret Service agents will have to learn enough about the activity to accompany him.
