The Olympics have a great and long history. The Games began in 776 before Christ. After that they took place in Greece for approximately 1200 years. The former Olympic Games included various kinds of sports: wrestling, boxing, running, pentathlon (five different kinds of sports), etc.
In 394 anno Domini the Olympics stopped. Only 1500 years later the French baron Pierre de Coubertin convicted fifteen countries to continue the Olympic Games. The first of this modern series of Olympic Games were held in Greek Athens in 1896.More than two thousand competitors participated at the 4th Olympic Games in 1908 in London. More than twenty-two different countries sent their athletes to England. From year to year the number of sportsmen competing in Olympics is growing. The International Olympic Committee locating in Switzerland appoints a place where the next Olympics will come about. The Committee always asks cities, not countries to become a host for Winter or Summer Olympic Games.
